What is MEN2b?
(Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2b) aka MEN3

MEN2b is a rare genetic condition that affects the endocrine system. It affects glands in the body that make hormones. Hormones are like little messengers that help the body grow and stay healthy.

In MEN2b, some glands can become too active and may form growths. One hormone, called calcitonin, may be higher than usual. Doctors can check this with a simple blood test.

Common signs of MEN2b

People with MEN2b may have:

  • Very flexible joints

  • Eyes that may feel dry

  • Small bumps on the lips, tongue, or eyelids (Neuromas)

  • High palate on the roof of the mouth

  • Eyelids that may look a little thicker

  • High arches in the feet

  • Long arms, legs, fingers, and toes (Marfanoid Habitus)

  • A type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid cancer (MTC)

  • Growths on the adrenal glands (Pheochromocytomas)

Some people may also have tummy troubles like constipation, bloating, or diarrhea.

Everyone with MEN2B is unique. These are some things doctors may notice.

A hopeful note

MEN2b is rare, but families are not alone. With early care and proper medical treatment, individuals with MEN2b can achieve and maintain good health, while families build strong, healthy relationships, and an understanding of MEN2b.

Connection, care, and community make a big difference.
